Foodstuffs like popcorn, confectionery and fizzy drinks have long been part of the cinema-going tradition and remain hugely popular as a one-off treat. There is no evidence that, consumed on this basis, they have any significant effect on health or issues such as obesity.
Nevertheless, conscious of increasing public concern around these issues, many cinemas are exploring the possibilities of offering healthier options in food and drink alongside the traditional offerings.
There may be occasions where an individual customer has particular dietary needs - for example where there is an allergy to particular kinds of nuts. In such genuine circumstances cinema operators will attempt to be flexible. If they are not able to offer suitable food or drink options, they will generally, with advance notice, allow individuals to bring in their own food.
