disability and access

This page is intended to provide guidance and resources to help cinema operators deal with issues of disability and access.

Advice and guidance

The CEA has produced two advice documents on these issues. Links to these are below:

Best Practice Guidelines for the Provision of Services to Disabled Customers and the Employment of Disabled People’, CEA, Fourth Edition, February 2007.

'CEA Policy on Disability-Related Concessions - Additional Guidance', CEA, August 2008.

The CEA Card scheme

Details about the CEA Card scheme can be found here.

Since March 2009, the CEA has introduced a standard set of terms and conditions to underpin the scheme and provide greater clarity on the rights and responsibilities of cardholders and participating cinemas. These can be downloaded here.

Accessibility monitoring report

The disability organisation www.yourlocalcinema.com compiles and supplies the CEA with a quarterly report tracking the number of access-equipped cinema sites and the number of accessible screenings.

The most recent report, for the period up to December 2008, can be found here.

Disability Working Group

The CEA has a longstanding Disability Working Group(DWG), comprising representatives from exhibition, distribution and the wider cinema industry as well as those from groups representing disabled people. Notes of the most recent meetings of the DWG, as well as those of the smaller Circuits Access Group, can be found here.
