Further evidence of the strength of the performance of UK cinemas in 2008 has been provided by the release of figures which show a year-on-year increase in box office of 5 per cent to £949.5m.
Alongside recent figures confirming a 1.1 per cent increase in attendances last year to 164.2 million, this latest information seem to underline the resilience of cinema-going during times of more general economic gloom.
With audiences continuing to seek affordable and escapist entertainment, cinemas remain optimistic about the prospects for another successful year in 2009.
