Latest admission figures for the month of July – the fourth highest monthly figures on record – confirm that UK cinemas are continuing to perform strongly, with every hope that this year will outstrip even the performance of 2008.

Latest monthly figures put UK cinema admissions for the year to date almost 10 per cent up on the same point in 2008. While at 20,039,500 the July figures are down on 2008, that month was truly exceptional, marking the releases of titles such as The Dark Knight and Mamma Mia!, the latter being the most successful film of all time.

With audiences already looking forward to the new Disney Pixar animation Up!, the next instalment of the Twilight saga New Moon and James Cameron’s Avatar in coming months, hopes remain high that this strong performance will be sustained over the remainder of 2009.
