Latest admissions figures for April confirm a continued strong start to 2010 for UK cinemas.

And with the strong Summer slate of movies already onscreen, there is every hope that this year could at least match last year’s record-breaking performance.

Admissions in April stood at 14,655,330, an increase of 6 per cent on the same month last year and 6.2 per cent up on total admissions at the same point in 2009.

Cinema-goers continued to turn out in huge numbers in April to enjoy a range of films including Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, How to Train Your Dragon, Kick Ass, Clash of the Titans and Date Night.

With Iron Man 2 already kicking off a strong Summer season of movies, the sector looks to the next few months with confidence.
