A ‘screen icon’ award to US superstar Tom Cruise was the highlight of a sparkling National Movie Awards ceremony in London last night.
Hosted by James Nesbitt in front of an audience packed with excited cinema-goers, last night’s NMAs event at the Royal Festival Hall followed nationwide voting in cinemas and online across the UK in April.
Those there on the night and the millions watching live on ITV1 saw a roster of A-list cinema celebrities there to hand out and receive awards.
Highlights of the evening included a ‘special recognition’ award presented by Kylie Minogue to all of those behind the the Harry Potter movies, the most successful franchise in film history. Having previously been up to the stage to collect the ‘family movie award’, stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Bonnie Wright were joined on the stage by series producer David Heyman and director David Yates.
And at the end of the evening, over 25 years in the movies was recognised when Tom Cruise was there in person to collect his ‘screen icon’ award from Gwyneth Paltrow.
