After a challenging Summer, UK cinema came roaring back in October with almost 17 million admissions, the highest number for that month in over ten years and almost 25 per cent up on October 2011.

While the period up to and around this Summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games proved challenging for UK cinemas, as it did for so many other entertainment businesses, the resilience of the cinema trade has once again been amply demonstrated by the huge numbers flocking back to the big screen, with some 16,834,615 recorded cinema admissions last month.

With a range of movies on offer including Taken 2, Frankenweenie, Hotel Transylvania, Paranormal Activity 4 and of course Skyfall (the latter continuing to do incredible business ever since), and with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn 2 and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey also on the slate,. hopes remain high that October onwards in 2012 could prove a record-breaking period for UK cinema.
