Last month saw cinema admissions reach their highest June level for at least a decade as the Summer season on the big screen got off to a flying start.
The 13,029,685 recorded admissions during that month were 5 per cent up on the figures for the same period last year – which were themselves seen as strong. The numbers were driven in the main by the strong showing of Man of Steel, World War Z and Despicable Me 2.
With many more films coming to the big screen over July and August – including Monsters University, Pacific Rim, The World’s End, The Wolverine, The Lone Ranger, Kick Ass 2, Planes and Elysium – and without the competing attractions of last Summer, UK cinema is hopeful of another hugely successful Summer season.
