Vue Entertainment and Picturehouse Cinemas were the category winners at this year’s Screen Awards, held in central London yesterday evening.
Competing in new ‘Exhibitor of the Year’ categories – established for the first time with sponsorship from the Cinema Exhibitors’ Association – both came out on top in closely-fought competitions.
The Exhibitor awards were just two of 22 given out across categories including marketing, PR, distribution and creative at a ceremony hosted by Edith Bowman at London’s Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel.
Vue (pictured) were considered by the 20-strong judging panel to have just edged fellow majors Odeon and Cineworld Cinemas, while Picturehouse came out on top against an array of other smaller operators in their category.
Also nominated for the smaller operator category were:
- Edinburgh Film House
- Everyman
- Glasgow Film Theatre
- Kinema in the Woods
- Light Cinemas
- Saffron Screen
- The Thurso Cinema
