Dawn of the Planet of the Apes from 20th Century Fox has emerged as the most successful film on UK cinema screens this Summer.

In the period up to 31 August, the film took £31.98 million at the UK box office, just edging The Inbetweeners 2, which had reached £31 million at that point, but was still performing well.

The top ten films of Summer 2014 at UK cinemas were as follows:

  4. Guardians of the Galaxy – £24.50m
  5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – £24.12m
  6. How to Train your Dragon 2 – £23.65m
  7. Transformers: Age of Extinction – £19.44m
  8. Maleficent – £19.25m
  9. 22 Jump Street – £18.64m
  10. Godzilla – £17.24m
