A record-breaking September for admissions saw the UK cinema sector continue to power ahead even of last year’s extraordinary success.
Last month saw 11,664,455 admissions, a incredible 26 per cent up on the same month in 2015, putting the sector as a whole almost 3 per cent up on even last year at the same point. That represents the highest September UK admissions since 1997 (the month of The Full Monty).
Key to that success was the exceptional audience response to Universal’s Bridget Jones’s Baby, already far surpassing £40 million in box office and showing little sign of slowing down.
With some great films still to come – not least Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in November and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in December – UK audiences can look forward to further great experiences as the year draws to a close.
