UK cinema admissions continued to surge in February, continuing the strong start to 2017 for the sector.

Buoyed by the performance of a host of awards-nominated films – in particular La La Land – as well as family titles such as The LEGO Batman Movie and Sing and more adult-oriented films such as T2 Trainspotting and Fifty Shades Darker, cinema admissions in February hit 16,479,373, up over 7 per cent on the same month in 2016 (itself a recent high point) and maintaining the same margin of increase over admissions at the same point last year.

Commenting on the latest figures, UK Cinema Association CEO Phil Clapp said:

‘2017 promises to be an exceptionally successful year for the UK sector, with each month seeing the release of one audience-pleasing movie after another. The sheer number and diversity of major titles this year is hugely exciting.’
