Some of the UK’s best cinemas found themselves in competition today when the shortlist was announced for the 2017 Screen Awards.
The Awards, the premier such event for the wider UK cinema industry, features a range of categories across distribution, marketing and cinema exhibition. The latter features two separate ‘Cinema of the Year’ categories, one for companies with 24 screens or fewer and one for those with 25 or more screens.
For the smaller operator category, the shortlist is as follows:

- Edinburgh Filmhouse Cinema
- Genesis Cinema, Mile End
- Jam Jar Cinema, Whitley Bay
- Parkway Cinema and Theatre, Beverley
- Phoenix Cinema Trust, North Finchley
- Regal Movieplex, Cromer
- Saffron Screen, Saffron Walden
- Screen Machine mobile cinema
- Showroom Cinema, Sheffield
- The Sussex Exchange
- Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle
- Zeffirellis and Fellinis, Ambleside
And for larger operators:
- Cineworld at the Empire Theatre Leicester Square
- Cineworld Birmingham Broad Street
- Crouch End Picturehouse, London
- Curzon Aldgate
- Duke of York’s Picturehouse, Brighton
- Everyman Bristol
- Odeon Bournemouth
- Picturehouse Central, London
- Reel Cinema Burnley
- Showcase Cinema de Lux, Leeds
- Vue West End, London
In addition, this year three cinema companies are in competition for the Cinema Marketing Campaign of the Year, where the short-listed finalists are:
- Everyman Music Film Festival, Everyman Cinemas
- Picturehouse Cinemas’ Membership Campaign, Picturehouse
- This Is Not A Cinema, Vue Entertainment
The winners in each category will be announced at the Awards ceremony to be held at Grange St Paul’s Hotel, London on Thursday 30 November. The full shortlist across all categories can be found here.
