Admissions at UK cinemas reached over 19 million in August, almost a third higher than the same month in 2017 and the biggest cinema-going month for seven years.
The exceptional success of a range of titles over the month – in particular Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! and The Incredibles 2 – saw admissions reach 19,224,516, up 32.8 per cent on August 2017, and pushing admissions over 3 per cent ahead of the same point last year.
This represents the highest number of admissions for the month since 2011 and the second highest box office ever for August.
Given the strong and diverse slate of films promised over the remaining months of the year, UK cinema operators are looking forward to the rest of 2018 with continuing confidence.
