UK cinemas saw their highest Summer box office returns ever in 2019, latest figures confirm.

Taking the period from 3 May to 29 August, total box office was over £474 million, up 7.8 per cent on last year and the highest recorded figure for the Summer months.

Driven by a strong and diverse slate led The Lion King, Spider-Man: Far from Home, Aladdin and Toy Story 4, the Summer months saw the sector catch up after a sluggish start, setting a solid foundation for the remainder of the year and increasing the possibility that 2019 will surpass even the record-breaking bar set by 2018.
