UK cinemas across the country – working in partnership with Studiocanal and Aardman Animations – raised over £110,000 for the cinema charity MediCinema last weekend through preview screenings of the upcoming A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon.
The film was screened at 328 cinemas across the country, including sites operated by Odeon, Cineworld, Vue, Picturehouse, Empire, Merlin, WTW Scott, Empire, The Light, Reel, Savoy and Parkway Cinemas, as well as a host of other smaller operators.
All monies raised from the previews will go directly to support the work of MediCinema, which provides cinematic experiences in healthcare settings, addressing the recovery and well-being needs of patients, families, carers and NHS staff experiencing the challenge of complex critical illness and extended hospital stay.
Welcoming the news, MediCinema Chief Executive Steve Crump said:
‘We at MediCinema are delighted with the success of our Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon Nationwide Preview Screening! All made possible through the sterling support of StudioCanal, Aardman, the UK Cinema Association and their members, raising an incredible £110,000. These unique screenings saw thousands enjoy the spectacle of UFO’s over Mossy Bottom Farm! Thank you StudioCanal and to all the cinemas involved on the day. Together, we have enabled 8,786 patients to feel better with film!’
Anna Marsh, Managing Director of Studiocanal UK added:
‘Studiocanal UK has proudly supported MediCinema for many years. It means a lot to partner with them on A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon; it’s a film guaranteed to bring joy to patients and families in the coming weeks. As an industry it’s a privilege to make a small difference and the work that MediCinema continues to do reminds us all just how magical cinema can be.’
