The UK Cinema Association has today added its voice to that of 26 other leading Scottish business groups and trade associations in calling on the Scottish Government to retain the Uniform Business Rate (UBR).
In a joint letter to MSPs – co-ordinated by the Scottish Retail Consortium – the group calls for the discarding of plans to scrap the UBR and instead hand control of this £2.8 billion tax over to each of the 32 local authorities in Scotland.
Making clear their collective ambition for a competitive rates system which better reflects economic and trading conditions, the group nevertheless emphasise their concern that the abolition of the UBR – and Scotland-wide rates reliefs – will lead to greater inconsistency and unpredictability for all of their members.
