UK cinema-goers have been today invited to help decide the nominees for the inaugural ‘Cinema of the Year’ category at the 2025 British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs).

Supported by long-standing industry champion Kia, the award will look to identify the nation’s favourite cinema, drawn from a long-list of over 130 UK sites of all sizes, shapes and audiences.

The award recognises that there is nothing quite like the communal experience of watching a film on the big screen and wishes celebrate the special cinemas around the country that are at the heart of their communities, bringing audiences together and championing in particular independent film.

Public voting opens today and will run until Monday 22 September. A jury will then select the nominees, taking into account audience votes and the cinemas’ submissions.

The final five nominees will be announced on Monday 3 November along with the rest of the nominees for BIFA 2025 and cinema-goers will then again be asked to vote from Monday 3 – Tuesday 25 November to decide the winner, which will be announced at the BIFA ceremony on Sunday 30 November.
