ODEON Cinemas and Universal Pictures have announced plans to roll out the ground-breaking Watchword closed caption technology around the release of the upcoming Wicked: For Good.
Watchword, developed by the not-for-profit organisation Built for Good with funding support from the UK Cinema Association, uses a proprietary glasses-based solution to allow those requiring captions the ability to watch any film in any screen. This ground-breaking technology in particular reduces the need for deaf and hard of hearing audience members to limit their cinema visits to specific open captioned screenings.
Initially installed at 14 ODEON sites, the availability of Watchword will be timed to coincide with the release of the much-anticipated Wicked: For Good. To promote this exciting development, a special video – which can be seen here – has been released, featuring the film’s stars, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Watchword will be available at the following ODEON sites:
- ODEON Luxe Leicester Square
- ODEON Luxe Acton
- ODEON Guildford
- ODEON Luxe Maidstone
- ODEON Luxe Norwich
- ODEON Bournemouth
- ODEON Taunton
- ODEON Luxe Bridgend
- ODEON Luxe Tamworth
- ODEON Luxe Northampton
- ODEON Liverpool One
- ODEON Metrocentre
- ODEON Luxe Glasgow Quay
- ODEON Luxe Dundee
