The Magic Lantern Cinema, Tywyn in Wales was unveiled as the winner of the inaugural ‘Cinema of the Year’ award at this year’s British Independent Film Awards at a ceremony held in London on Sunday evening.

The Magic Lantern emerged victorious from over 130 nominated cinemas of all shapes, sizes and locations across the UK and a process which involved over 100,000 public votes.

Situated in a 1890s assembly room, the cinema is a hugely-cherished community asset, as evidenced by the warm welcome the announcement of the award received from cinema patrons on the night. More here.

Huge congratulations to the Magic Lantern on their achievement, and indeed to the other nominated cinemas.
