2025 saw UK cinema box office increase by 1.1 per cent on the previous year, marking a further year of recovery for the sector.
Latest figures from the industry data company Comscore confirmed that total UK revenues for the year reached £989,502,237, their highest level since the pandemic. More disappointingly, admissions showed a small (2.4 per cent) reduction at 123,498,891.
The stop-start nature of the film slate across the year, and the weaker line-up of films in particular in the final quarter compared to 2024, was demonstrated by the fact that the sector entered the second half of 2025 20 per cent up year-on-year, only to see that progress gradually clawed back.
Highlights of the year included the unexpected success of The Minecraft Movie – the biggest box office title of 2025 – as well as the strong showing of films as diverse as Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, Lilo & Stitch and most recently Wicked: For Good.
As the sector slips into 2026, there is every hope that the undeniably strong slate of films this coming year will see greater and more consistent growth.
