The UK Cinema Association has offered today’s announcement by the Chancellor of a temporary reduction in VAT on children’s cinema tickets a warm welcome.
The reduction, part of a raft of ‘cost of living’ measures announced today as part of the Government’s Great British Summer Savings campaign, will see VAT on children’s cinema tickets reduced from 20 to 5 per cent from 25 June to 31 August.
While there is still some detail to be worked through on the practical implementation of the measure, it was nevertheless seen as a major positive by the Association, with Chief Executive Phil Clapp commenting:
‘Cinema operators across the country will warmly welcome this show of support from the Government for our sector and the help it will provide for families to enjoy even more of the great line-up of films coming to the big screen over the Summer months.
We look forward to working with our members to ensure that this welcome measure benefits the widest possible number of children and young people.’
