August saw total UK cinema admissions of over 17 million, making it the second-biggest month since the pandemic and the biggest August for cinemas since 2018.
Driven in particular by the extraordinary audience response to Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, now exceeding £89 million and £77 million respectively at the UK box office – August’s admissions were – at 17,003,838 – an incredible 56 per cent up on the same month in 2025 and saw Summer 2026 become the biggest since COVID, well ahead of even the Barbenheimer Summer of 2023.
That ongoing success saw admissions up 15 per cent year on year (box office was 22 per cent).
With a host of strong domestic and international titles still to hit the big screen over the coming months – and with Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three due to battle it out at the box office on 18 December, UK cinema operators have every reason to look forward to the future with confidence.
