UK cinema operators were again to the fore when the industry gathered this week to recognise and celebrate excellence at the 2018 Screen Awards.
The Awards event, held at The Ballroom South Bank in London on Thursday evening, saw Peter Hoare, Director of WTW Scott Cinemas receive a hugely well-deserved Exhibition Achievement Award, sponsored by the UK Cinema Association.
Reflecting on his five decades in the industry (but reassuring those on there on the night that he started very young), Peter said:
‘This has come as a total surprise to me, but nonetheless I feel greatly honoured. I have been fortunate to spend 51 years working in a business that I love…but none of it would have been possible without an able and loyal team around me.’
In the evening’s two closely-fought ‘cinema of the year’ categories, the winner amongst cinema companies with 24 or fewer screens was The Picture House Uckfield, with a ‘highly commended’ going the way of The Hebden Bridge Picture House.
For companies with 25 screens or more, ODEON Luxe, Edinburgh West emerged victorious, with a ‘highly commended’ going the way of Crouch End Picturehouse.
